NYE Fireworks in Sydney

Sydney NYE Fireworks

Seeying the Sydney NYE Fireworks is one of those things you just have to do once in your life. A typical bucketlist thing. Something you need to see to believe.

I was lucky once in 2011 when I was living and working in Sydney. After some great advice from a work mate, we got a front row spot with the best views of the Sydney Fireworks.

Not crowded from 8am in the morning at the Sydney Operahouse, not from an expensive Sydney Hotel or party boat, but enjoying a relaxing dinner in the city with my travel buddy and making our way by metro to the other side of the Sydney Harbour bridge at the Luna Park side after that.

Although it was still crowded, we managed to get a grassy spot at around 10pm, two hours before the magical Sydney NYE Fireworks started.

The whole firework spectacle lasted around 15 minutes and then the real fun began when heading back home together with hundreds of thousands of other people 😉

The city was totally crowded and metro’s where overloaded. We decided to walk through the city and take a Metro a bit further then the Sydney CBD stations, so at least the main load of people who would take the Metro from the CBD Stations would be gone by then and the Metro station wouldn’t be almost dangerously crowded with people.

Although it was still busy, we still managed to get our way into a Metro station and all in all arriving back home around 3-4 am in the morning. I lived in a suburb located around 30 minutes from the CBD by public transport.

The next morning I had a morning shift starting at around 7 am, but regardless of my lack of sleep, it was an unforgettable night which I will never forget.

See below a compliation of my favourite Sydney NYE Firework photo’s I took on the night.
