How I improved my life in a caravan during LOCKDOWN

How the hell do you do live in a caravan?

This is a question we often get, but during Covid-19 we stepped it up a notch and the question: “How do you live in a caravan during lockdown?!” was asked even more 😉

So here we go: This is how I improved my life in a caravan full time with our family.

Staying Creative during Lockdown

Let’s be honest, it is hard sometimes. Living full time in a caravan has many ups but also downs, but that’s also the case when living in a ‘normal’ home and when living full time in a caravan without lockdown.

When we travel full time around Australia with our family it’s also different then staying longer at one place, like we do now around Melbourne.

During the week Lion and I both work full time, Sem goes to school ( that has been all still going during the Covid Pandemic as he still falls under the Kindergarten & Early Learning Centre scheme ) so life hasn’t changed that much for us.

We are very thankful lion works in a essential job and although my Travel Business ‘Woody World Packer’ has been reduced massively during the Pandemic, my Marketing and Content Creation Business Citrus Creative Marketing  has boomed as more and more people are taking their businesses online and need content creation for their products, website and social media or marketing & social media help.

It has been great to support Australian businesses with their online journey and keep my freelance staff at work during these times.

I had to find my way though in the beginning of Covid. I felt a bit off. I had to switch gears, sometimes felt a massive lack of creativity, had to put all my energy in my Content Creation & Marketing Business as it become more and more busy, but after a few weeks I got the hang of it.

My creative juices started to kick in again, and together with my team we smashed some goals.

The weekends were harder as usually we always go out and about exploring or just going for a long hike. A bit different then being locked up in a caravan.

Bad Melbourne weather also didn’t always help. Ans as it’s winter, playing outside wasn’t always an option either.

Sundays for us always are about getting out in Nature, spending time together with our family, as it’s the only day off together at the moment. And for me getting out of the van, as it’s not only our home, but also my office.

So with this lockdown we had not much choice than a quick walk in the gorgeous park in our backyard ( as exercising was still allowed ) and staying inside.

So we tried to keep our minds positive and found many ways to be creative together. With games, science experiments ( Sem loves them! – Will write another post on that under Homeschooling Ideas ) cooking & baking ( More about that in another post as well ) Watching movies & series and doing shoots for clients.

It takes a little longer but it’s fun to set up photoshoots with the whole family and get all our creativity in there.

I think that keeping busy and creative is essential for a positive mindset, especially during these times.

Selfcare during Lockdown

Selfcare is so important. Anytime, but especially during these times of Lockdown. I am a bad girl when it comes to selfcare. I always put other things before myself and selfcare is one of the last things on my daily list, while it should be my second ( after taking care of the family )

But this busy bee learned doing a better job and Lion often just reminds me that it’s time to take care of myself.

I started a new book, started meditation and sometimes just do nothing ( which is extremely difficult for me 😉 But definitely getting there. I might be a pro of self care one day!

Dressing up during Lockdown

Images of people doing skype or zoom meetings in underwear or even less are funny additions to the internet nowadays.

For me staying sane includes dressing up and getting at least a bit of mascara on.

I sure do have my Saturdays and Sundays where my hair is highly due for a wash, I keep my joggers and oversized jumper on and my face only gets a splash of water, but I just feel better when I am at least a bit dressed up in normal clothes and a bit of mascara.

Looking good is feeling good.

Healthier lifestyle choices

This one is not only because of the lockdown, we started that already before, but this whole Covid Pandemic made us think more about our health and life.

We already lived pretty healthy, but during Covid we looked for ways how we could improve our lifestyle and diet even more by looking after the planet and ourself.

We became even more aware, learned more and educated ourselves on the bad sides of plastic and toxics in daily products and food.

We also basically quit alcohol ( I only drank once or twice a month a couple glasses of wine – but nothing at the moment ) and I quit caffeine cold turkey. I used to drink one or max two cups of coffee a day, which I did for years and years.

I quit on a Monday, and the Wednesday after I was sick like a dog for a day. After some research, I already discovered that quitting caffeine can bring some side effects even if you didn’t drink that much of if. Boy did I feel that! Like my body went in detox straight away!

Quitting alcohol and caffeine complete will probably be temporarily, although I must say; I don’t miss it really, but sometimes think that a nice cup of cappuccino or a red wine during dinner would be nice 😉

Did you improve your life during lockdown? If so, what did you do?
