A day in the life of a digital nomad

Day of a digital nomad

More than ever before, people are working remotely. Thanks to the technology these days, a digital nomad life is more accessible and the hype will keep growing.

But what is a digital nomad? And how do you become one? Being a remote worker or digital nomad may seem like a dream, but what is it like to travel the world while working?

We can write several stories about this amazing lifestyle, but in this article, we will give you a look into a random day of a digital nomad as this is one of the questions we often get: ‘ What does a typical day look like when you are a digital nomad? ‘

First of all, there is no set schedule for digital nomads, we choose our own hours. This allows us to channel our work through our adventures.

There are days I work from 7 am to 11 pm, with a few breaks in between, but there are also days that I work for a couple of hours and then knock off. Some days I work from our caravan in Australia and other days I work from a hotel room in Seoul or a villa in Bali

Monday could be spent at the beach and Sunday could be a workday.

A day in the life of a digital nomad

Many people ask me what a typical day looks like when working remotely. As said above, there is so set schedule for a digital nomad, however, it does mean I can choose a schedule that suits me and my family best.

When on the road, I prefer working early in the morning and during the evening time when Sem is asleep.

Here is an example of a random day in Seoul, South Korea, where we spend 8 days working and exploring as a digital nomad family.

Digital Nomad Life Morning: Coffee First

Our wake up time varies on different locations and depends a bit on what we are going to do that day, but usually, when we don’t set a wakeup call, we wake up somewhere between 6.30 – 7.30 am.

Sometimes, when I’ve got a lot of work to do, I wake up before the boys.

When on the road we like to wake up slow with a coffee first 😉

After coffee and quickly checking my email for urgent stuff, we dress up and grab ourselves breakfast.

When breakfast is finished we either go back and I work a bit or we head out and do some exploring.

When we are full time on the road, we home school Sem, which we do 5 days a week always in the morning, when he is most concentrated.

After that, when I have work to do, Lion and Sem do an activity together or everyone does their own thing.

Digital Nomad Life Afternoon: Exploring and Chilling out

Most day’s we go out and about and do some exploring in the afternoon. Some day’s we are away from morning to evening, and other days we head off after breakfast or lunch.

When we are back at the end of the afternoon, we chill out by watching something on tv, read something, do a game or I work when needed.

Digital Nomad Life Evening: Dinner and a relaxing bath

When we are travelling around the world, we mostly go out for dinner. We always try to go early so Semmie is still in a good mood. When running late after a busy day exploring we mostly get a take-away meal and eat in our room.

Sem is the one deciding our schedule at night depending on his mood. As long as he is happy, we are out and about, and when he becomes moody or tired, we head back ‘ home’. Happy kid, happy parents right 😉

After dinner, we often go for a long bath if we are lucky enough to have one in our room. Most of the hotels we work with have a bath as they are often luxury hotels, but if we book a hotel for ourselves ( like the one in the pictures below we booked via Agoda ) we always look if there is an option for a bath. It’s not neccesairy, but when we have the option, why not 😉

Our little man loves bathing and as we obviously don’t have a bath in our caravan ( apart from a sit-up tub ) we try to get the most out of our temporary ‘homes’ when travelling overseas.

After bathing it’s bed-time for Sem, and when he is sleeping Lion and I do some more work or we chill out.

Not a day is the same when you are a digital nomad

This was just a little peak into one single day as a digital nomad in Seoul, South Korea. As said before: Every day is completely different, which makes it fun, excited and adventurous.

We love having the freedom and flexibility that comes with it.

Are there cons of working remotely? Yes of course… But this is for another story…
