Seoul with Kids: A day trip to the beautiful Chuncheon region

Garden of Morning Calm South Korea with Family

South Korea is one of our most surprising destinations and one that we highly recommend when travelling with children. There is so much to see and do within Seoul and many day trips are within a short drive from Seoul itself.

Chuncheon is one of our favourite places to visit outside of Seoul and you will be amazed by the beauty of the area.

One day trip that we recommend when you want to travel to the Chuncheon region with children, is the Chuncheon full day trip with KKday.

KKday provides many filled days of exploring and adventure all around Seoul, to explore more of the beautiful surprised South Korea has on offer.

The best part about booking a day trip with KKday is that everything is organised for you, you are provided access to the popular areas and are sure to be happy with the way the day pans out.

We choose the Chuncheon Day Tour from Seoul that included the Gangchon Rail Bike, Nami Island, Petite France, and The Garden of Morning Calm.

During this family friendly tour, you will explore four delightful South Korean destinations.

Stroll through Nami Island’s scenic landscapes, visit the colourful cottages and cobblestone streets reminiscent of France at Petite France, be active at the Gangchon Rail Bike and take in magnificent views of the countryside along Bukhan River and witness the picturesque Garden of Morning Calm.

The route of the tour and which destinations you will visit first is depending on a few factors like weather or traffic for example.

During our tour, we did the following order: Garden of Morning Calm, Petite France, Nami Island and we finished the day with the Gangchon Rail Bike.

Unfortunately, the weather was not completely on our side, but it was still a great family trip from Seoul.

The start of the day tour with KKday

Included in your day trip from Seoul is round-trip transportation from Seoul’s major subway stations.

You select the one that is convenient for you. We departed from the Seoul Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station (Exit 10), which was the last pick up station, so we could sleep a little longer 😉

The bus turned up on time and we were friendly welcomed by our tour leader.

Garden of Morning Calm

Our first stop of the day was the Garden of Morning Calm.

The Garden of Morning Calm is one of the most beautiful gardens in South Korea and many people flock here to view the beauty of it themselves. And it’s not hard to see why.

The Garden of Morning Calm focuses on South Korea’s natural beauty and showcases floral arrangements and landscaped gardens built with harmony and peace in mind.

There are several representative gardens like the Millennium Juniper, which is the representative tree of the Morning Calm and estimated to be around 1000 years old.

Then there is the beautiful Sunken Garden, which is filled with many different and colourful flowers during spring, summer and autumn season.

J’s Cottage Garden is an English style garden, the Road to Heaven with many blooming flowers, the Pond Garden, which is a traditional Korean Garden with a cute little pavilion and the Moonlight Garden with many white plants that symbolise moonlight and bright atmospheres.

No matter which season you visit the Garden of Morning Calm, you will see a range of different colours, textures and beauty everywhere.

There are various festivals throughout the year, so if you plan your trip at the right time you will have a chance to join in on the festivities.

The Garden of Morning Calm also has a few little shops and cafes.

Petite France

The concept of Petite France encapsulates flowers, stars and the little Prince. It is a small village that follows the French lifestyle and way of living. It is a small village with several French style buildings where visitors can explore, eat, shop and experience the French way of life.

When you visit the area you will feel like you are in France itself and will be surrounded by beautiful flowers, mountains and a quaint atmosphere.

Kids will love it too as there are lot’s of colours, ice creams, a special kids section and an amazing train Marquette.

There are also several performances if you are interested in that. We used our time to wander around in the village instead.

Nami Island

Nami Island was our favourite part of the day trip. Its perfect to visit with kids as there is so much to do and see. We could easily stay here for a few days ( which is possible as there is accomodation on the island as well )

Nami Island is a perfect little escape from the bustling of the big city and it provides you with a chance to relax and rest in a beautiful area with towering sequoia tree-lined pathways trees, wild animals, delicious food and many things to do for the whole family.

When you arrive at the Gapyeong Wharf you will need to go with a little ferry to Nami Island ( included in your Kkday tour ) which only takes a couple of minutes.

There is a little train that you can take to go from one side of Nami Island to the other side, and part of the fee you pay for the train ( only a few $ ) goes to Unicef.

We decided to take the train to the other side and then walk our way back.

We felt like we were in a completely different world than Seoul or South Korea in general. It was like a holiday village with obviously many tourists, but it didn’t really feel like that. There are many walks along the river, several grass areas to have a picknick, gardens, a swimming pool, a hands-on learning centre for kids, a village centre with little boutique shops and the best Asian Food at the Dongmoon Asian Family restaurant.

There is also a great play area and things to discover and see like several animals and flowers.

Nami Island is also very popular with those who like K-drama and there are statues that you can take photos with to remind you of your visit to the area.

A great place to visit with your family to escape the hustle and bustle of Seoul.

Nami Island is beautiful in every season. We were there in summer and everything was beautifully lush and green. When you visit Nami Island in spring, you will be welcomed by pink blooms, fiery fall foliage in autumn and snow in winter.

Gangchon Rail Bike

The last stop along the way was the Gangchon Rail Bike. The experience is like no other and one you will not forget.

You get a chance to pedal along old train lines and experience the area through the eyes of someone on an old train.

There is a trail that you can complete and that takes you through the track and the area surrounding it. You get a chance to see the rice paddies, rivers and mountains surrounding the area.

Along the way, you also get a few surprised in the tunnels with special effects, music and lights.

Overall experience with KKday to Chuncheon

The day trip to Chuncheon is one that we definitely recommend during your next ( family ) trip to Seoul. It gives you a chance to get out of busy Seoul for a bit and experience a day of relaxing and peaceful surroundings.

Booking the day trip through KKday means that you are able to visit each of these places in a well organised tour which takes you through the best areas and shows you the things you will not want to miss.

KKday is very experienced in tours and providing the best customer service.

Our tour leader was great, the transport was very comfortable and although we are not really group kind of travellers, we loved this group day tour.
