How to create an amazing website? Here is some inspiration

You only get one first impression. Not only with dates or job interviews, but also when people land on your website for the first time. The two most important things are good quality photos and high-quality content. Writing and Photography are Arts, and so is digital storytelling. Those things combined make the recipe for your readers to decide if they will stick around or move. Connecting with your audience is key.

The first spark

The first thing your readers see is your front page. Your website’s homepage is like the front door to your business, the welcome mat at that pretty home and that cherry on the cake. For us, our website was the start of our Digital Nomad Family life. We show you a few website front doors we really like. They are clean, stunning and inspirational. Not only the looks made us fall in love at first sight, but also their writing and way of engaging and connecting with people.

Urban Pixxels

www.urbanpixxels.com

Dutchie Jacinta is living in London, where she started her blog about her new life in London, but soon she extended this to travel and photography. And with huge success as her photos and stories are being used in magazines like Condé Nast Traveler, National Geographic, and her Instagram account has been listed several times as one of the best travel accounts to follow on Instagram.

Urban Pixels is all about travel inspiration and information for the traveler who wants to explore the most interesting destinations in the world; prefers design boutique hotels over hostels; likes travel photos and videos more than reading about it; is always looking for the hidden gems; and believes that exploring the local food culture is just as important as sightseeing. A really pretty website with amazing photography.

Another Escape

www.anotherescape.com

The front door of this website is just out of this world, literary and figuratively. I mean look at this front photo, it is absolutely stunning!

Another Escape is an outdoor lifestyle, creative culture and sustainable living website that explores the stories of passionate people, alluring landscapes and intriguing ideas. Inspired by nature to be creative and lead a considered way of life, they cover a disparate selection of subject matter all deep-rooted in exploration, creativity, innovation and discovery, and aim to be a source of inspiration for those who seek an active and considered lifestyle by encouraging an optimistic, forward-thinking and responsible mindset. Unique and inspiring!

Hither and Thither

www.hitherandthither.net

Hither & Thither is a leading lifestyle and travel site created and written by Ashley Muir Bruhn. With thoughtful discussions on modern parenting, family friendly travel, home design, food, and more. Everything we love and write about as well. ( Well, the hospitality and the modern parenting part, as well as expat life stories, are coming in the near future 😉 ) But in the meantime we love to get inspired by this beautiful website.

Jungles in Paris

www.junglesinparis.com

Far from your ‘ordinary’ travel blog! The planet has been charted and documented, and yet there are still discoveries to be made. Unfamiliar ways of living and extreme natural environments help us gain perspective; the seeds of enlightenment lie in the world’s mountains and seas, deserts, and swamps, and city sidewalks. Focusing on culture, craft, geography, and wildlife, Jungles in Paris attempts to tell edifying, inspiring stories that celebrate the multicoloured variety of the world around us. The people behind Jungles in Paris take a creative approach to documentary photography and filmmaking. If you want to read unique stories, you won’t find on any other blogs and get inspired by beautiful photography, this is the blog to subscribe to.

My Tiny Atlas

www.tinyatlasquarterly.com

If you are active on Instagram and have an account related to travel, I am pretty sure you use or know the hashtag #mytinyatlas

Tiny Atlas Quarterly magazine began as an extension of the founder’s collaborative work as professional photographers, designers and photo editors, but was created on a very personal level. Ever growing since, Tiny Atlas is known for a signature visual style and specialising in telling rich, beautiful stories that unfold through images, art, and personal accounts. They feature high-quality content and photography, which is a pleasure to read and look at. One thing I really like is how creative they have been with their Destination Titles ( See pictures below how they did Tokyo, Minneapolis, Paris and Tel Aviv.

Our Wild Abandon

www.ourwildabandon.com

Love at first sight with this website by Kyla and Jill, who sold everything they owned to hit the road in a fixed up old trailer in 2013. We all know that expression ‘you only have one first impression’ and this blog’s front door is marriage material. And so is their Road Journal. Just look at them below and you know what I mean.

Kyla and Jill say on their website; ‘At our best, we are documenting our lives on the run and telling stories about the people in our path. At our worst we’re looking for places to shower and running out of gas ‘  Yep, We love these girls too!

Petite Passport

www.petitepassport.com

Pauline, another creative Dutchie, who loves to find the best hotspots. Not the ones you will find in every guidebook, but the more special ones. She wouldn’t go to a restaurant because the food is superb (which is, of course, a nice extra) but because of the interior. And we sure love to discover all the unique and design related hot spots she found on her travels as well.

Roam Magazine

www.roam-magazine.co

ROAM is an online magazine for creative travellers, writers and photographers, telling the stories behind photographs.

Co-founders of ROAM Magazine, sisters Annapurna and Athena Mellor from Yorkshire, England, have spent part of their childhood living in the United Arab Emirates and Australia and developed an appreciation and interest in culture and travel. Both sisters later became passionate about words, photographs, and being open and honest and expressing themselves in a creative way.

Pretty awesome website’s right?! If you take the time to go and read a bit of each of them, you will see they write pretty awesome too! And that’s the second thing that makes a website successful. Content.

Content is key

To engage with your readers your content needs to be engaging, entertaining and fun. If you read stuff that is dryer than the sand in the Australian Outback, you would probably leave and never return. Sometimes it can be hard though to come up with great content, or when you just start you might have to figure out what your target audience is, or create your online strategy.
